I admit it: I love writing employee newsletters.
When a client or PR firm calls for editorial help in producing a group of stories and photos to be shared within a company, I’m thrilled.
Why? With the exception of the occasional “state-of-the-company” type of stories, I get to interview employees on how they spend their off time; what they do for charity; what they are passionate about. Whether they are running road races, traveling overseas as a missionary or penning their second book, I think we can all agree that a company that celebrates an employee as a whole person is, well, a company worth celebrating.
Company newsletter articles offer a glimpse into an employee’s life that his or her cubicle mate may not always see. HR departments invite employees to participate in fitness competitions or volunteer work on company time. Work anniversaries are lauded. New hires are introduced. Spirits are raised. Life-balance is praised.
Whether it’s a three-item Constant Contact email or something that takes a more elaborate form, company newsletters are a valuable vehicle to nurture trust and express appreciation.
